SEARCY COUNTY
Searcy County (population 1990; 7841) is a predominately rural county located in the Boston Mountain Range of the Ozark Mountains of north central Arkansas. Established in 1838, the county encompasses an area of 884 square miles. The Buffalo National River (the first designated national river in the United States) crosses the northern area of the county, offering easy year-round access to one of the last free flowing rivers in the U.S. Areas of the Ozarks National Forest are located in both the extreme eastern and western areas of the county. Marshall, with a population of 1341 is located near the center of the county and is the seat of county government. Other incorporated towns are Gilbert, Leslie, and Pindall. All use the mayoral/councilman form of government. |
